Chuck Armstrong had a long career as a singer which began with a 45 on Cleveland’s Gemini label in 1966 (released under the name Little Charles). He would then criss-cross a number of cities & labels throughout the late 60s through the 70s finally ending up in Florida. Along the way he has 45s on Sound Stage 7 in Nashville, Black Rock in Detroit & Drive in Florida. This 45 on REW in Chicago was another outside production licensed from Armstrong’s then current label R&R in New Jersey. Armstrong even has an LP on R&R from 1976 which features George Kerr in the production team. As is usual for this era of operations, the REW 45 has no Reginald or Lynn’s credits on the label, just the REW Distro credit & the So. Cottage Grove address. I’m A Lonely Man is a nice slice of southern sounding soul, Chuck Armstrong had a great voice and my favorite stuff by him are his two SS7 45s, the Black Rock 45 is worth checking for too.
