One of a trio of Funky Belly dance records (OD Williams & Warren Lee are the others), I don’t know that the Funky Belly really took off in the manner of say the Boogaloo, but this is a good funk 45 nonetheless. Larry Foster is a pretty common name, so I can’t say what (if any) other 45s he had. Hines & Williams are listed as composers and we see Circle/VH&L credits appearing on this label as well hinting at the Chicago relationship. I would like to know more about Larry Foster’s bio, was he a Chicago artist or another from the Greenville area? The record certainly sounds southern & the Funky Belly seems to have been confined to the Mississippi & Louisiana areas as a dance record craze.
