Bo-Bo 1147 – Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day / Your Promises

Folkways 2865 – Various Artists – Roots: The Rock and Roll Sound of Louisiana & Mississippi LP “Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day”

Something of a mystery artist, Maxine Thomas seems to have only cut this one 45 in New Orleans at Cosimo Matassa’s studio.  She was originally from Danville, Illinois but seems to have vanished from the scene after this release.  “Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day” is of course a cover of the Johnnie Taylor/Sam Cooke version of the song and also appears on the Folkways compilation pictured above.  “Your Promises” is nice deep soul and has writing credits for Hines and a Dee Dee Davis.
