USA 773 – More Luck To You Baby /Hey Little Girl
Another New Orleans record which is something of a mystery to me. Edward St Ann was a New Orleans singer and this is the only 45 of his I know of. Licensed from White Cliffs in New Orleans to the USA label in Chicago. “More Luck To You Baby” is actually the same song as The Cherries “You Gonna Need Me” on Della (covered on this site). Incredibly, it also appears as “Baby Lots Of Luck” by The Valentinos on SAR. Naturally, The Valentinos 45 has totally different credits and the truth as to who did what when and first is probably somewhat lost to time. My guess is that The Valentinos from 1963 were first and then Hines tried to cash in twice a bit later on (Edward St Ann around 1965 and The Cherries maybe a little later). Regardless, it’s still a cool song.
